yeah, on the surface it seems like that, but he's sort of right. As an American, I lived in Europe for a while. All the students I met spoke English, and there were several American/English cultural institutions in place there, e.g. movies, music, media, companies. There will not be one monolithic culture, but more like an over-culture, which everyone has contact with, then smaller unique sub-cultures of regions. Compare your state's culture with the broader American one. It's the same concept.

I don't agree in a coupleof points.1st he says that the culture of our civilization would be blue jeans, then he says the terrorists would be intolerants etc...I could disagree more, our worldhas already many civilizations, he is the intolerant that pretends to eliminate all those civilizations to create one (english speaking). If there is a path to 0-1 CIVS then it has not been properly described by Mr.Kaku. The ones pretending defend their culture are terrorists in this description.

Those who fear power are those who are corrupted by it - the weak.

I have no faith! :-)When this age ends a new age will come. The transition always results in loss of human life.

Lol i wouldn't say beneficial in the true sense of the word, but it could help them achieve their means. It's sad that we're so cynical. I have faith in humanity to improve itself in the future, I hope my trust isn't misplaced.

Yes, I agree that only limited nuclear warfare is beneficial - perhaps as a precedent for a new policy, war, or such.
sd06ds (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I know a limited nuclear war could happen, but a global nuclear war that would destroy human civilization probably won't. It's not in the interest of the countries who could do it. Limited warfare is profitable for them, a global nuclear one isn't. I don't think that if we make it to the next level we would recognize the new order of things, however it would be better than the alternative of anarchy. |
